Hey everyone,
Here's what up this year.
# 1 The first event is on May 15th and is a working morning at the Skywoods Canoe Co shop to prepare all the materials for one of Horace's Canoes to built at the summer WCHA Assembly in July. We will be making ribs, bending stems, preparing the building form for a canoe, and getting everything ready and organized. This will take about 3 hours if many hands make light work. We welcome you to come help or just come to see and learn more about the process.
Tim at American Traders in Brattleboro has donated the planking for this canoe, thanks Tim and Cindy. Any chance we could have planking by then and get it sanded and varnished one coat that day?.
We will eat lunch and then we hope, weather permitting, to go on an Otter Creek canoe trip from point to point somewhere nearby that afternoon.
#2 On Saturday June 12th in Vergennes, Vt will be the Otter Creek Basin Bash. It will be held just below the falls in Vergenenes. This is a day-long waterfront celebration with watercraft, fishing, etc. We have been invited to bring canoes and display, offer rides, take trips down the river by canoe, and generally have fun. The town is just up the hill and it is a great way for us to get together and paddle a new spot.
# 3 July 13th thru 18th.
The Annual WCHA assembly In Near by Rindge, NH at Franklin Pierce University- right at the base of Mt. Monadnock.
OUR Chapter is running the Construction and Restoration Tent led by Yours Truly and WE need some of YOU to plan on helping and staffing the tent throughout the event for some two or three hour shifts. Whether you want to show us how you would do it or come and learn, please be ready to sign up. Find out lots more at the WCHA website.
In addition to building a new canoe there will be 20" Old Town Guide model canoe in the process of restoration.
The assembly is a lot of fun please at do try to come for one day or meet friends there from else where in New England.
So far that is our plan for this year.
Please put in your two cents worth either by phone or email to me directly or with all of us.
I would really welcome someone to take on the task of writing up something for Patty Macleish to put in the Wooden Canoe Journal.
